It's been a while since I've had a movie move me the way this piece of art has.The past couple of hours has set a serge of emotions and feels rushing through me as thoughts left a somber and tearful bittersweet after taste.
Dame Judy Dench left me heartbroken and breathless, her Oscar worthy performance was absolutely flawless.
The screen play that was written by Steve Coogan himself is rightfully rewarded. The film is based on the book (that i will soon be getting) The Lost Child of Philomena Lee by Martin Sixsmith. The story is of a mother's 50 year-old search for her long lost son, its trials and tribulations.
The journey is as emotional if not more than what one would expect, however i was not prepared to question the vitality of forgiveness in order to secure closure.
After you watch Philomena, i would love to know if you could forgive. One can possibly, to reach some level of closure and content, to forgive a wrong doing. But one, a woman, a mother, NEVER forgets. It's not an option, not a question.
Lee's 50-year-long search for her son. The book focuses more, as the title suggests, on the life Michael/Anthony had after his adoption.
The film was nominated for four Academy Awards, including for Best Picture, and Dame Judi Dench is nominated for Best Actress (i think/hope she gets it), she was also nominated for four BAFTA Awards and three Golden Globes.
I tried to predict the movie, as we all do when watching American/Hollywood movies. But refrain, don't even bother with this one, you won't come close.
Tip: take some tissues, i cried for 50 mins, and make sure you stay for the credits and real life footage.
